0 for 9

The Bible says there is evidence in the lives of those that claim Jesus Christ as their heart changing Savior by a measuring device called “fruits of the spirit”.
Galatians 5:22-23 These “fruits” include love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Nine all total.

Well, this week I encountered a set of circumstances that didn’t seem to be lining up with my expectations. So for about 4 hours within the walls of our townhome I proceeded to demonstrate just the opposite of what the “fruits of the spirit” are designed to reflect.

Now don’t call the police, I did not verbally or physically abuse my wife. My pathetic attitude had nothing to do with Linda. However, my words and thoughts over this situation were less than an image of Jesus. I was 0 for 9 … and as a former coach, that’s not good. But as a follower of Christ,
0 for 9 is downright disobedient.

Shortly after my display of foolishness I confessed this to another one of my pastor colleagues on staff. Once again the forgiving and healing power of Jesus on the cross has made its mark on my life.

I’m pretty sure no one is 9 for 9 with this “fruits of the spirit” measuring stick. So which do you need to confess and repent of ?

By the way, it is not the “fruits of the spirit” that saves a person … only Jesus can do that !

“If we confess our sins, HE is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
