The Success Illusion: Final
We conclude our look into raising “successful kids” In Part I I stated that I talk with a lot of parents and often I ask what they want most for their children. The most common answer I here is Success. I then ask the parents to define success and what I normally here is a good education, a good job and some financial abundance leading to less struggle then the parents had to deal with. In Part II we looked at Honesty and Discipline as the top factors that lead to “successful” people and family’s according to Dr. Thomas Stanley’s …

God Spoke You Into Existence
“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world.” (Jeremiah 1:5, NLT) Dear one, you were started as an idea in the mind of God! Wow! You exist because the God of the universe thought you up. The God who spoke the world into existence, the God who hung the moon and the stars, the God who set the sun in the sky – this creative Creator thought about you, was pleased by his thoughts and so he spoke you into …
The Success Illusion: Part II
In The Success Illusion: Part I we established that many parents today are stressing and developing areas in their children that will not lead them to true success. In Dr. Thomas Stanley’s book “The Millionaire Mind”, Stanley surveys the households of America’s wealthiest families to determine the traits and habits of financially successful people (Millionaires). He also singles out true financially successful people not those who buy big homes, lease expensive cars and try to “look wealthy.” According to Stanley’s research the traits most mentioned by millionaires that lead them to success are: 1. Honesty – Integrity – Character 2. …
The Success Illusion
I talk with a lot of parents and often I ask what they want most for their children. The most common answer I here is Success. I then ask the parents to define success and what I normally here is a good education, a good job and some financial abundance leading to less struggle then the parents had to deal with. I also believe that actions speak louder than words and when I listen to parents talk and see what they most support and try to develop within their children, it usually falls into the categories of academics, sports, or …
bad shot excuses
I played nine holes of golf late yesterday afternoon in our church league. My average is 43 strokes per round. It was 95 degrees and humid. I had never played on this particular coarse before. The greens were cut short and fast. The grass in the rough was taller and thicker than normal. My hands slipped a couple of times due to the sweat on the grips of my clubs. A few times I would have hit a “perfect” shot, but the last little branch of a tree hit my ball and dumped me into a sand trap. The bunkers …
half of the truth … is not enough
I know many people … even family members … who say they believe in GOD. Unfortunately that’s not enough to put them in GOD’s heavenly Kingdom. As a matter of fact Satan loves it when he can convince you to believe in GOD. Especially if you think that’s all the faith you need. GOD’s own word tells us that there is more to this whole “faith thing”. If you, or someone you know, is looking for the ENTIRE truth … … truth that is grounded in the righteousness of GOD … here is what GOD Himself has to say: “You …
The Importance of Christ-Centered Bedtime Stories
Every night I am home, when it is time for the kids to go to bed, I am the one ‘chosen’ by them for the job of tucking them in, and the same question is always asked during our bedtime routine, “Daddy, will you tell us a story?” I love telling the kids stories. Sometimes I fall asleep while I am laying on the floor telling them. I know this happens because I mumble my way through the story, floating in and out of consciousness, before accidentally ending with the word “Amen” instead of “the end.” To which Jacob promptly …
One Step Beyond
“Do not banish me from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me.” (Psalm 51:11 HCSB) “Don’t throw me out with the trash, or fail to breathe holiness in me.” (Psalm 51:11 MSG) Do you ever fear that God will banish you from his presence? That you’ve gone one step beyond God’s patience and grace? The ancient king of Israel, David – a man after God’s own heart – expressed a similar concern, but he ran full-throttle into God’s grace, a grace rooted in a perfect love that casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). David understood that it …
