Conquering Your Slides

There’s not many indoor playgrounds in the greater Sandpoint metropolitan area (population 7,000). So, last week we loaded up our horse and buggy and made the 90 minute trek to the Spokane Valley Mall so our son, Judah (19 months) could play on one. Actually, I needed shoes and after looking at the two places here in Sandpoint we decided to go to a mall with a better selection–the playground was an added perk!

Tree Stakes

Several years ago, my daughter was exercising her right to make decisions and was beginning to make some wrong ones.
So I took her for a drive.
We drove through our neighborhood and we stopped at a local park. We got out of the truck and walked over to a small tree that had two large stakes next to it. The tree was tied to the stakes.
I told her “Kai, you are like that tree. You are young and you have roots that aren’t strong enough to keep you in the ground when the hard wind blows.”

OK, finally God, I get it

The toll-way was jammed yesterday as I made my way into the city for a Moody Grad class on the Theology of Missions. It would take me less time to jog than to drive one mile. I complained … but I was alone so no one heard me. No one but God.

Choose the top 10 greatest vocalists of all time … yes, I said of all time … and none could sound like GOD when He sings. Imagine the LORD sitting center stage and singing a song just for you. I am …

Answering Our Children's Questions

My friend Casey Ross recently blogged that our job as dads is to answer one very important question for our sons and daughters as they grow. Casey wrote,
I just finished John Eldredge’s You Have What It Takes: what every father needs to know (only 50 pages and $3.00). He says us dads need to do one thing for our child. Now, come on dads, we can get on board with a plan that only gives us one thing to do to be successful dads! He says:
“I’m going to make fathering very simple: …

Toy Story

$500 million for Grand Theft Auto. Half a Billion for stealing a car? No, that is not what someone was fined for committing a crime; that my friends, is the amount of money the video game, Grand Theft Auto, made the first weekend it hit the shelves. Tragic. I miss the days when we had toy controversy’s like…was the “magic 8 ball” really magical? I have to admit it was a little disconcerting when I asked the 8 ball what I should strive for in life and the answer it gave me was, “keep …
