Being a dad
I’ve been thinking lately about what it means to be a dad, a husband, and a provider for my family. I think there’s something built into every dads hard-drive that programs us to want to provide. The thing is, we usually only think of providing in terms of material provision. We need to earn enough money to buy all the stuff our families need and the more the better. It’s way too easy to forget about the other things we need to provide, like emotional support, spiritual direction, wisdom, friendship. It’s been a while now, since I’ve been able to …
Waking up inside
There’s a strange and kind of surprising thing that happens when you’re going through a really difficult life experience and trying desperately to hang on to God in the middle of it. You don’t notice it at first because you’re too busy chasing turn-around solutions, hoping that your circumstances will repent. But after a few weeks, or months of living with a life-plan that you didn’t write, a gradual awareness develops that you’re not exactly the same person you were a while ago. You’re changing. This is kind of where I’m at right now. From my vantage point, the big …

Radical
Did you hear the big entertainment news story today? Britney Spears crossed the line of faith! Can you imagine that? She’s decided to forgo her crazy ways stating they were “hollow” and that she was only temporarily filled up with her extravagant lifestyle. Britney claims that she had an encounter with a Christian that did not pass judgment upon her despite her well known shenanigans. The person showed her kindness and compassion. Once a friendship was forged the Christian confronted Britney and it was the turning point that made her realize that despite her accomplishments she was not guaranteed a …
The Potter
Over the last two weeks I’ve been shocked to see the behavior of children between the ages 2-3. I’ve noticed that children develop at different rates. For example some may speak really well while others already understand 4+2. Some children are already potty trained while others don’t know what the word “potty” means. Sadly, some children are behind developmentally in most areas. I even saw a prodigy 2 year old boy on ESPN who was hitting golf balls into a umbrella 15 feet away. He actually chipped 8 out 10 golf balls into a turned over umbrella. The funny piece …
went fishing and caught a Rabbi
On my last day of vacation I decided to go off by myself to the fish the Fox River for a few hours. My plan was simple … to enjoy the solitude of just me and the river and to pray that I would not encounter people. It worked until I was walking the path back to my truck. Suddenly from out of the woods stepped a woman. Looking somewhat confused she asked me for directions back to where she lived. After answering her question, she asked if she could walk with me since we were both headed in the …

Rock Star Testimony
Ever heard of those people who’ve wrecked their lives by abusing sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll? Ok maybe it’s not possible to abuse rock-n-roll. You get the point. There are lots of people who’ve hit rock bottom. I’m not just saying on a depression level. I’m staying their life could not get worse. Then in that broken moment they find God and turn their life around. What an amazing testimony to the power of God. Yeah but “I’ve been a Christian my whole life and my testimony’s kinda lame”. I’ve heard this fodder many times. But something struck me yesterday after …
Peter’s Shadow
Just wanted to share with you about a new revelation I had while reading the New Testament. Christ aside I always thought Paul was the stud of the N.T. My thoughts are starting to change about that. Well at least Peter deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Paul. Jesus said ‘And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, …
Outrageous Request
Matthew 20:20-23: Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him. “What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.” “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not …
