Painting My Childhood…

My wife and I are buying a house here in Sandpoint and since the close date was pushed back we received permission to get in and paint while we had family in town to watch our children. After all, have you ever tried to paint with two toddlers running around? My wife said, “Well, pick a room to get started in” and I knew exactly where I was headed: Judah’s room! Tamra and I decided that we were going to paint our kids’ rooms gender colors so Elliana’s room is a girly pink/purple and Judah’s is a manly bright boy …

Daddy's Little…Warrior?

I remember when I saw wife bounce my son, Judah, on the bed for the first time. He was maybe 4 or 5 months old at the time and this was the first I had seen of being able to rough house with him. As he began squeeling with excitement while grinning from ear to ear I got very excited and shouted to Tamra, “We can play like that with him now?” “Just don’t get too carried away, but yes.” She replied. Since that moment I don’t think a day has past when I haven’t headlocked, body slammed, armbarred, or …

Coffee!! Coffee!!

Since becoming a dad my caffeine intake has skyrocketed. I used to pride myself on only needing one cup in the morning to keep me burning all day. However, my kids have changed a lot of that. The other day while driving through town we passed a Starbucks and my son started yelling, “Coffee! Coffee!” My wife and I looked at each other in amazement and started laughing at how pathetic this observation was. We were surprised that he would pick up on that because we honestly don’t go there that often. Once in a while we’ll swing through on …

The Hunt For the Ninja Turtle…

I had searched everywhere for a Ninja Turtle! Everytime I would be in a store I would look to see if they had one. However, with the resurgence of Batman, Indiana Jones, and the Incredible Hulk there were no mutant turtles trained in the art of ninja by their rat master who mimmicked their owners movements to be found anywhere. Finally, while on vacation we went to Toys ‘R Us and found not only a Ninja Turtle, but, Michelangelo who just happens to be my Judah’s favorite one.

I Went to Work Today…

Today I had the privilege of getting in my car and driving to work today. Now, I realize that for most of you that sounds about as obvious as saying, “Hey, I breathed oxygen today”. However, since moving to Sandpoint to pastor Hidden Valley Worship Center a year ago I have been working out of my house. We have now finished the new sanctuary and church offices and I finally have a place to concentrate-something that is difficult for me to do-and a place to get work done.

Peanut Butter & Pornography

I have to admit one of my guilty pleasures that I didn’t realize was considered disgusting until I went away to college. It’s something that I feel no shame for even though other people try to judge me for it. My favorite food on the face of the earth is a peanut butter and Miracle Whip sandwich. I know what you’re thinking, “This guy is insane!” But, there’s something about the magical combination of peanut butter’s sweetness and the tangy zip of Miracle Whip-it’s like nectar of the gods! What’s even better about it is that it’s a utility meal; …

Disciplining For Things I'm Proud Of…

Today while my wife and I were eating breakfast I heard the jingling sound of my keys. Seeing as how my 3.5 month old daughter was sleeping, not to mention incapable of doing any other physical activity outside of rolling over and throwing up on her and anyone within range, I naturally rounded up the usual suspects–my son. He’s 18 months old and is starting to really figure out how to get into things.

In Whom I Am Well Pleased…

I never thought that I would be so proud of someone taking a pee in all my life. However, that emotion has now been ascribed to that act in a way that I’ll never forget. No, I don’t have a family member suffering from a watermelon sized prostate that managed to release a little bit of relief. Instead, it was my son.

Conquering Your Slides

There’s not many indoor playgrounds in the greater Sandpoint metropolitan area (population 7,000). So, last week we loaded up our horse and buggy and made the 90 minute trek to the Spokane Valley Mall so our son, Judah (19 months) could play on one. Actually, I needed shoes and after looking at the two places here in Sandpoint we decided to go to a mall with a better selection–the playground was an added perk!
