bad shot excuses

I played nine holes of golf late yesterday afternoon in our church league. My average is 43 strokes per round.

It was 95 degrees and humid. I had never played on this particular coarse before. The greens were cut short and fast. The grass in the rough was taller and thicker than normal. My hands slipped a couple of times due to the sweat on the grips of my clubs. A few times I would have hit a “perfect” shot, but the last little branch of a tree hit my ball and dumped me into a sand trap. The bunkers were hard and poorly raked, so I chunked three of my sand shots.
Twice I hit my ball hit just where I wanted, but it took a bad hop and dribbled into the water. Four times my putt was headed right to the cup, but struck a little “seem” in the poorly mowed green, and rimmed out. I shot a season high 59.

Actually … no excuses … I hit a large number of very bad shots and the results were embarrassing.

Sadly, this is the way many of us deal with our spiritual life. We make excuses for our sin. We have no clue what it means to be responsible. However, in the end God will expose us … and all our “bad shots”. The Bible says in Romans 3:19:
” … every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God”.

By the way, the only real “golf pro” that can fix bad shots is Jesus. Without Him, you and I will never make the cut.
