Court TV and me

Lately I have been fascinated by a television channel I’ve discovered. It’s called “Court TV” and it’s about real life stuff that is caught on tape. From police chases to court room scenes to amazing accidents … it grabs my attention for a few minutes just about every night.

On a recent episode I heard a judge make this comment while handing down his sentence to a young convicted criminal … “Because of your mean spirit I find much joy in sentencing you to the maximum number of years in our state prison.”

This prompted me to wonder … exactly what kind of spirit is God expecting from me ? In Psalm 51 King David tells me that the Lord instructs all of us who trust in Him to have:
“a broken spirit” (verse 17) … ready to confess sin.
“a willing spirit” (verse 12) … ready to be used.
“a steadfast spirit” (verse 10) … ready to boldly stand.

More importantly than the “Court TV” judge, how would the One True Judge describe your spirit ? Does it please Him ?
