Jack Green, an 80 year old man who lived most of his life in Arkansas and Missouri, died this week. He left behind his wife, son, grandchildren, and many joy-filled memories.
Most of my contact with Jack was in the 1950’s and 60’s as a kid and teenager. I remember him being a “master jokester” who enjoyed fun and teasing us kids to the maximum of our limits. But Jack was also an All-American handy-man, and could fix things everyone else thought unfixable.
While talking on the phone to Jack’s wife and son … I found it interesting that they both referred to Jack’s relationship with Jesus more than anything else. When our phone conversation ended I had this strange thought. If only I could call Jack right now. Just one call … for maybe 60 seconds. I would ask him what its like to sit at the feet of Jesus … see His face … look into His eyes … touch His nail scarred hands and hear His voice. Especially His voice !

You see Jack was my uncle and he knew the voice of Jesus … and followed Him.
Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. (1 Peter 4:16, ESV) (Listen)
Sorry to hear about Uncle Jack. Sounds like he was a cool guy. It’s so awesome we can live life with the reassurance that our time here is so temporary. Time here is just a pit stop on the way to Heaven. Cool devotional. Really got me thinking about how great heaven will be some day.
