hey dad, keep the change

If you claim to be a Christian dad … I don’t think it’s practical to think that your kids expect you to be perfect. However, I do believe children can learn the most about God by watching a father who quickly admits when he is wrong and asks God to change him. When kids see their dad changing to be more like Jesus … this, to me, represents fatherhood the way the Lord intended.

As a father and husband from 1969 to 1995 I did next to nothing to model what it meant to be a God honoring dad or spouse. During this time I was only concerned about myself and unfortunately my ungodly lifestyle was the model my children experienced.

For more than twelve years now I have been on a mission asking God to change me. He certainly hasn’t made me perfect … that won’t happen until I am taken up into His Kingdom … but He is changing me. And this is what I want my kids and grandchildren to see. A father who has been made into a new creature … where the old has gone … and the new is a reflection of Jesus.

“… put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” Colossians 3:10

A Thanksgiving reminder … Fatherhood … what a gift from GOD !
