my-ology

I taught high school Biology for many years. Biology is the study of living things.
Lately I have been studying another kind of “ology”.
Driving in the Chicagoland recently I came up behind a huge Hummer … and the license plate read … “My Toy 1″. In addition, this huge Hummer was pulling a huge boat and the license plate on the boat’s trailer read … “My Toy 2″.

Later I came across an account that Jesus gave in Luke chapter 12 about a man who had such a bumper crop that he didn’t know what to do with all his wealth. This man was consumed with what he called: “my crops” … “my barns” … “my grain” … and “my goods”. So I agreed with God when God called this guy a “fool” in verse 20.

After work that day I drove to my house, in my Jeep, to watch my big screen, and then balanced my checking account, reviewed my savings account, as I sat in my leather recliner and ate a snack from my refrigerator full of my food.

Suddenly it occurred to me … I’m a fool just like the guy in Luke chapter 12. I have “my-ology disease”. My-ology is the study of men who think what they possess is theirs … instead of an absolute blessing from GOD. Too many times I forget that what I have … is really not mine at all. It is on loan from the God who loved me so much He sent His Son to take my place on the cross.
