need a personal trainer ?

After a three year absence, I finally returned to a boyhood hobby I’ve enjoyed for more than 40 years —- bird hunting.
In the last week I had both the time and the opportunity to hunt pheasants in Iowa and Illinois. (I’ll take Iowa any day)

In each state I hunted behind some well trained and enthusiastic bird-dogs. One German Shorthair and three Labs. Now I know from experience that these dogs required many days of consistent training and discipline in order to be good at what they were bred to do —- hunt birds.

Well, the Bible explains that I was “bred” to bring praise and glory to God. Additional examination of God’s word reveals that He is pleased with us if we are connected to Him through His Son Jesus. There is no other way to interact with God.

Finally, I have discovered that I’m in need of some daily training to keep in tune with God’s expectations for a holy life. Being a Christian is not an easy commitment … but it is a commitment … and it requires training. Keep in mind that this training doesn’t save you … Jesus did that painful task for you on the cross. Not only is Jesus our Savior, He alone is our perfect personal trainer for holy living.

” … train yourself to be godly.”
“set an example … in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity.”

1 Timothy 4: 7 and 12
