O, The Wonder

To say that Nicol and I are enjoying our new baby girl would be a big-time understatement.  From our very biased perspective, she’s absolutely the most adorable and beautiful little thing you’ve ever seen.  When first we laid eyes on her last Thursday morning, Nicol and I fell in love…with Summer and with each other all over again.  We are definitely smitten!

I remember the night we found out that Nicol was expecting.  We jumped up and down, laughed, cried, praised our great God, and even freaked out a little.  It wasn’t long before the Spirit tapped me on the shoulder and reminded me of Psalm 139.  At that very moment, the Creator was shaping, forming, sculpting, and crafting Summer inside her momma’s womb.  O, the wonder!

I also remember how quickly the fears and doubts came racing into my mind.  Would Summer be okay?  Would she survive?  What about Nicol’s strength and health?  How in the world am I going to do this father thing?  Questions.  Doubts.  Fears.  Anxiety.  And then I got another tap on the shoulder.  “Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them.” (Psalm 139:16)  I rested very well that night thanks to the soothing, assuring voice of God:  ”I’ve got everything under control, there’s nothing you need to worry about, there’s nothing you need to do except trust me.”  O, the wonder!

I’m thankful today that He is in control.  I’m thankful that He crafted our little girl and that His hand is still on her.  I’m thankful that He gave us this precious gift.  I’m thankful for my brave, loving and hard-working wife.  I’m thankful for answered prayers.  I’m thankful that our parents were able to be at the hospital with us.  I’m thankful to Jesus in ways I’ve never known until last Thursday morning.  O, the wonder!

I think I’m going to go give Summer and Nicol a big hug!

So how was the hug? :)

Greg, nice to see your first post here - I’m sure over the coming days, weeks and months you will have plenty to write about. (Although not enough time!)

When my son Zach was born, I felt the same things you did - completely normal to have those anxieties. We had a pretty rough first year with him healthwise - numerous colds and ear infections, hospitalized a few times with dehyrdation, a needle in his head for IV, a spinal tap and the dreaded rotavirus.

I’m not trying to scare you, just letting you know that we got through it, and that every second of the way God was there, in control.

Keep us posted on the parenting thing, and feel free to post some pictures as well!! If you want to, you can email them to me and I can host them on our site.
