Bought a book today . . . for my daughter
I love being a Dad, well, most of the time. I have three man-cubs. 16, 15 and 10. I simply wanted to share that it’s fun being a father. I was in Border’s for lunch today. My favorite post-launch stopping grounds. A cup of coffee. Browsing the new hardbacks. By the way, never buy a paperback, they’re magazines. Always buy the real thing in a hard back spine. But I digress. Anyway, I’m browsing through the titles. I stumble upon Chosen by a Horse. Knowing that my 16 year old daughter would love this book, I promptly walked to the …
pride and leprosy
One of the longest reigning Old Testament Kings was Uzziah. He became King at 16 years old and ruled for 52 years. Uzziah was a wise and powerful ruler and many nations fell to his military campaigns. 2 Chronicles 26: 5 had this to say about the great King Uzziah: ” … As long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success.” But pride over-took Uzziah and he began a downward spiral of ungratefulness and disobedience toward God. Due to his unchanging attitude God struck him with leprosy, which stayed with him until his death. GOD hates pride … …
Thinking of the Sponberg Family
For those of you who don’t know, Greg and Nicol Sponberg are probably welcoming a new life into the world today. Greg is planning on being a contributor on our website, after things with the new baby settle down. You might have heard of his wife Nicol, singer/songwriter (also known as Nicol Smith Sponberg of the Christian group Selah), who has such a beautiful and unique voice. Anyway, I just spent a few minutes just now praying for a safe and healthy delivery for Nicol and the baby, as well as for strength and courage for Greg. Being a dad, …
Truth Fiction and the Grey Area in Between
I read the headline today ‘Da Vinci’ undermines faith, survey claims….. in the article “interviewed more than 1,000 adults last weekend, finding that 60 percent believed Jesus had children by Mary Magdalene — a possibility raised by the book — compared with just 30 percent of those who had not read the book.” Yet this is a fiction book… but yet people are taking it as fact…. I feel it is sad that we have become a society that hold our morales and beliefs so loosely…. I haven’t read the book nor do i plan to go see the movie …
tired of being pushed around
There are some days that I just feel like satan is winning. All the “sin-garbage” in this nation and around the world simply seem overwhelming. Even the battles in my own life wear me down. At times I feel pushed around and on the edge of falling. Sometimes I stumble and God is not honored through me. What a mess I can create. Then I take a walk through the Psalms and I discover truth and comfort just waiting there for me. “I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me. The Lord is my strength …
Mary Remembered
Hey tomorrow is Mothers Day and if you’re just finding out you’d better get on the ball. But something’s been on my heart this week about an ordinary person who turned out to be one of God’s greatest servants, Mary. Mary’s greatest and most over looked quality was her willingness to be used by God. She was considered plain folk that followed the Old Testament laws. She kept herself pure and was anticipating marriage to a simple carpenter. That’s when God took Mary from the plain and ordinary and turned her life into one beyond belief. One more thing to …
Not to be earned or purchased
Salavation is a simple gift. It’s simple … but it wasn’t easy. It’s free … but it wasn’t cheap. It’s yours … but it isn’t automatic. You must receive it. And when you do, it’s yours forever. “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as LORD, continue to live in HIM, … “ Colossians 2:6
Shell Shocked
For all of you American Idol fans, did you the see the expression on everyone’s face when Chris was voted off the show last night? Chris was stunned, Paula and Simon were stunned, my jaw dropped, and I’m sure millions of viewers couldn’t believe that Chris got voted off. And so I went to bed sad, depressed, and a little (make that a lot) disappointed. I had so many dreams for Chris, and I’m sure he had the same… Then this morning I was putting away some dishes, and I thought of something. Think of how many people will have …
can Jesus have a memory loss ?
Living in the Chicagoland area for more than 3 years now, I read about bribes, injustices, favoritism, and scandals in the Tribune or Sun Times every week. Even working in ministry and interacting with other churches I have heard accounts of less than honest practices. One thing you can count on … Satan is at work 24-7 as the “father of lies”. He has a plan to make you compromise the truth as soon as you hit the floor each morning. BUT there is ONE truth that will ultimately win this war and it is stated clearly in 2 Chronicles …
Am I raising horses or kids?
My son Jacob, who will be three in September, has a thing for horses. Last night while we were sitting together in the big livingroom chair and flipping through the channels we came across a horse show. The guy on TV was standing with a horse in the middle of a hockey rink like structure and talking to the people gathered in the stands. Apparently, the show was a taped instruction on how to teach and train a horse not to spook. The guy hosting the show was talking about training a horse through repeated action and the appropriate affirmation/correction. …
