The Pursuit of Happiness

Satan really loves it when we claim that we deserve to be happy because that is what God wants … thus we follow our own “feelings” and claim that we have a right to “the good life”. However, a closer look at scripture (God’s Word) and we find that God is interested in our pursuit of holiness rather than happiness. After encountering some family challenges this week-end, God has convicted my heart to seek obedience to HIM FIRST. Happiness comes from an inner peace … NOT from my selfish desires to make my life easier or more pleasurable. Matthew 6:33 …

Sinise: Making A Difference

Most of the time Hollywood celebrities and politics make for a train wreck. This time one of the Hollywood elites got it right. Gary Sinise co-founded “Operation Iraqi Children”, that provides Iraqi children with school supplies. Supplies are donated to a central location, Kansas City, and shipped to Iraq. Children who are trained to hate the US and are brainwashed to be suicide bombers receive the aid from American troops and Iraqi policemen. I heard Gary on the radio this week tell of story after story about how something as simple as school supplies made a difference in children’s lives …

Hope For All

I love looking back at my spritual journey. In September of 2001, I wanted to create a non-profit organization, called Hope4All. This was something I wrote when I was trying to figure out a mission statement. Although it never developed, it’s a fun way to look back at the things God was doing in my life. Helping Others Prosper Endlessly HOPE4All was inspired by three sources. 1) God. It is God who gave us life, and God who feeds our souls. Without Him, we are empty. We are without love, and without hope. Our lives have no meaning, and that …

"Our Father" . . . a template for prayer

I’m blown away with the simplicity of how Jesus templated for us how to pray in Matthew 6. Our Father . . . not our God, not our divine essence, not Muhammed, not mother, etc.  The fact that he is our Father first implies several things.  One, he is the originator of our lives.  Two, we are his sons/daughters. Three, he desires a familial relationship. That one phrase, ‘our Father’, gives us our very identity, which is the thought carried over from the end of chapter five: be like your Heavenly Father, who is perfect.

The Father of Lies

As a parent that claims to believe and trust in Jesus, you have many responsibilities. Some are fun. Some are frightening. One is about forever. You may build some great memories teaching your children to talk, ride a bike, play ball, swim, or read a book … but if you neglect sharing the unmatched love of Jesus … then you have withheld from them the way to eternal life. I truly believe kids should know at an early age that satan is the “father of lies” and here are his two biggest: #1. “There are many ways to get to …

Only the Lord

Christian Dads first week in is the books and I humble myself in comparison to the Lords greatness. We went from how are we going to do this, to the Lord is blowing this thing UP! Everyday has been an exciting ride. I remember day two BrowserBugs from Surrey, UK emailed us an encouraging note. On day two! Brian & I haven’t even told anyone outside our immediate family. BBugs found us from the other side of the world! How cool is that? BBugs continued his UK invasion bringing 3 more chaps (Vater, Beulah, & Josiah). If someone told Brian …

Raising a Modern Day Knight

I highly recommend this book by Robert Lewis: Raising a Modern Day Knight. I turn to it regularly for guidance.  “Robert Lewis shares a unique approach to shaping a boy into a man by equipping him with three essential elements: a vision, a code of conduct, and a cause (Christianity) in which to invest his life.” Also available in DVD format with curriculum.

The Stranger

It doesn’t make sense. None of this is my fault. Why am I here right now? I only stole so that I could feed my family. Remember God, when you burnt down my house? That’s when my life changed. You took my clothes, you took my food, and you even took one of my daughters in that fire. Then you sent a drought. I could not farm anymore. What was I to do? Then you took my wife. How could you? You let them rape her, and then beat her. I watched as they killed her. What kind of God …
