This weekend I was teaching my middle daughter, Avery, how to ride her bike. I got a workout just holding her bike and running alongside her.   I noticed that when I would let go of her, she would always look around for me and then when she saw that I wasn’t holding on, she would crash. Most of the time, I would scoop her off her bike before she got hurt.   Sometimes I wasn’t that fast.    Eventually she got better. I finally told her that she didn’t need me anymore. The other day I went with my daughter to her first ice skating lesson.  I grew up in the south and didn’t have a ton of ice skating rinks to practice on so I watched with interest as she began her “skating career”. It was interesting because the very first thing they taught was failure. Everyone got in a circle (she hadn’t even gotten on the ice, yet) and they made them sit on the floor.  They then showed them how to stand up without using their hands.
