the door and the 3 point shot

I think it was around 1983 when basketball’s 3-pt. shot was adopted by the Iowa high schools … thus opening a new door for an already great game.

I remember going to a Coaches meeting and listening to all the reasons it should not be allowed. “It will produce less disciplined teams.” It will take away from the play of the inside post players.” “It will not be a positive influence for the game.” … these were the excuses to close the door on the 3-pt. shot. Of course, all proved overwhelmingly incorrect.

Jesus offers another open door story … and this story is the new covenant pathway to reach our Creator GOD. But it was also rejected by most of the highest ranking religious leaders of the day. Sadly as a matter of fact, few ever enter through this door.

When Jesus was asked the question : “Are only a few people going to be saved ?” He responded with these words:
“Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.” And the owner of the house will say … “I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evil doers.” John 13: 22-27

You and I have one shot at a heavenly mansion. Jesus said: “I am the gate …” (John 10:9) What door or gate are you walking through ?
