the Peter in all of us
A few hours later Jesus is arrested and behold the “mighty Christians” ran like cowards … just as Jesus had predicted. Verse 51 reads: “Then everyone deserted him and fled.”
Now before any of us come down too hard on these guys … let us examine our own level of commitment to this concept of Christianity. If you have made an intentional decision to believe and put your trust in Jesus Christ as your life changing and eternal Savior, how often have you failed to honor your words and “deserted him and fled” ? I cannot speak for you … but for me certain sin still looks good … and I want to gravitate towards it.
It is only by staying in God’s word, praying daily, and meeting regularly with other “believers” that I can draw on the Holy Spirit to keep me on the path of His righteousness. Left alone … I will do just what Peter and the boys did.
